El Cantante (The Singer)

Real-life couple Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez play salsa legend Hector Lavoe and his wife, Puchi, in the biographical drama of the singer's rise from the New York barrio to the top of the salsa movement in the 1960s and 1970s. AP critic Christie Lemire writes: "If it weren't for the infectious, wall-to-wall salsa music, which Marc Anthony performs with a clear, stirring voice and great passion, it would be easy to write 'El Cantante' off entirely as a shameless vanity project." Lopez produces and takes top billing, and Leon Ichaso directs.
