PG13,1hr 44min Released: April 13, 2007 Director: Distributor: DreamWorks Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Shia LaBeouf is a suburban teenager under house arrest who goes "Rear Window" when he suspects a remote neighbor (a cool, creepy David Morse) of murder in this teen thriller from director D.J. Caruso. Though it's technically not a remake of Hitchcock's masterpiece, the comparisons are unavoidable. Caruso locks us in to the teen's perspective but updates the technological details for the 21st century, with cell phones, video cameras, and the ankle bracelet that is both the kid's prison keeper and panic button. On LaBeouf's side are a cute new neighbor (Sarah Roemer) and his goofball best friend (Aaron Yoo), but they are easily outclassed by Morse's manipulative character, which he plays as suburbia's answer to Hannibal Lecter. The dynamic of alienated teens vs. the icily assured adult, in a culture that won't take the kids seriously, is what makes this otherwise effectively executed but familiar thriller stand out. Features commentary by Caruso, LaBeouf and Roemer, a making-of featurette, deleted scenes and outtakes, and more. Also available in Blu-ray and HD DVD formats.
