Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies (Note: This review refers to the Blu-ray version of the DVD.)
"I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots, or only five?" In the case of Detective "Dirty" Harry Callahan, Clint Eastwood took five shots at the character. He hit the bull's-eye in his debut appearance, striding the streets of San Francisco with a .44 Magnum ("the most powerful handgun in the world") in the Don Siegel-directed "Dirty Harry" (1971). The Blu-ray "Ultimate Collection" features gorgeous masters of all five films in the series -- including the John Milius and Michael Cimino-scripted "Magnum Force" (1973); "The Enforcer" (1976) with Tyne Daly; "Sudden Impact" (1983), directed by Eastwood himself; and "The Dead Pool" (1988), the most lightweight of the series -- along with the 1993 documentary "The Man From Malpaso" and the 2000 feature-length documentary "Clint Eastwood: Out of the Shadows" -- on five discs. The films look crisp and sharp and vivid and all feature commentary, and the set includes a hardcover booklet and a collection of memorabilia reproductions. | |||||||||||||||
