"First-time screenwriter Gustin Nash tosses out disposable moral lessons by the barrelful while editor-turned-director Jon Poll gleefully bats them over the fence," writes Variety critic Ronnie Scheib, who adds that the film "boasts pitch-perfect face-offs between upstart Anton Yelchin and alcoholic principal Robert Downey Jr. that could fuel a chemistry lab."
