Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies (Note: This review refers to the Blu-ray version of the DVD.) This egregiously grotesque and dramatically slapdash historical epic has the dubious honor of being the most expensive pornographic film ever made. Actors Peter O'Toole, John Gielgud, Helen Mirren and Malcolm McDowell thought they were making a Gore Vidal film and wound up in a Penthouse production. For all the lavish production values and naked flesh on display, it's an ugly film both visually and dramatically, and Blu-ray only brings greater clarity to it. It features all the supplements of the previous DVD special edition, including two versions of the film, three commentary tracks (McDowell's recollections and observations are a highlight), bonus interviews and vintage featurettes. | ||||||||||||||
