DVD Review

Adam Sandler doesn't stretch himself to play the goofy, sweet and sour maintenance man at a high-class hotel who watches his sister's kids for a week and winds up living their bedtime stories. He makes kids laugh and guests happy and yet is unaccountably rude to most everyone else, which doesn't seem to hinder a romance with Keri Russell. There's a lot of spectacle thrown around the film -- Sandler in space, Sandler on a Roman chariot, Sandler in the Old West - - but for a film about the imagination of children, there is precious little imagination on-screen. The two-disc deluxe DVD and the three-disc Blu-ray combo pack include three behind-the-scenes featurettes (all under six minutes, but filled with colorful behind-the-scenes footage), deleted and extended scenes (not much here), the obligatory blooper reel, and a digital copy of the film for portable media players. The Blu-ray also features a bonus DVD version, a handy option for families: They can give the DVD to their kids and protect the Blu-ray from grubby little fingers.
