PG13,1hr 41min Released: February 2, 2007 Director: Distributor: Universal Pictures Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Diane Keaton is a meddling mom and compulsive control freak and Mandy Moore is her youngest daughter and unwary victim of a matchmaking scheme in this comedy of mothers, daughters and the battle wills between overbearing maternalism and defiant independence. Lauren Graham and Piper Perabo are her older, somewhat wiser sisters; and Stephen Collins, Tom Everett Scott and Gabriel Macht co-star. MSNBC critic John Hartl writes: "The director, Michael Lehmann, once had a gift for tart black comedy ("Heathers"), but most of his movies are unwatchable indulgences ("Hudson Hawk," "40 Days and 40 Nights"). Once more he slips into hard-to-watch territory, with the women becoming particularly obnoxious as the film grinds through a series of strained slapstick episodes." The DVD includes a pair of featurettes and a music video. | ||||||||||||||
