PG13,1hr 39min Genre: Released: April 25, 2008 Director: Distributor: Universal Pictures Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Tina Fey plays a tightly wound, single career woman who hires a trashy high school dropout (Amy Poehler) to be her surrogate mother. The friends and former "Saturday Night Live" collaborators make a good odd couple comedy team, but the broad comedy isn't suited for their brand of improvisational give and take, and the film tends to drag on. Sigourney Weaver plays a chirpy surrogate pregnancy entrepreneur, Steve Martin is a shamelessly name-dropping corporate guru with a silver ponytail, and Greg Kinnear and Romany Malco co-star. Features commentary by writer/director Michael McCullers, producer Lorne Michaels and stars Fey and Poehler; the 10-minute featurette "From Conception to Delivery: The Making of Baby Mama!"; a cute alternate ending; six minutes of deleted scenes; and an interview featurette with Fey and Poehler. The Blu-ray edition features the commentary and a picture-in-picture viewing mode with interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, but completely loses the alternate ending and deleted scenes. Which, quite frankly, makes the DVD the better bargain. | ||||||||||||||
