R,1hr 26min Released: April 13, 2007 Directors: Distributor: First Look Pictures Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies The strange, surreal animated series from the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming hit the big screen with an even more aggressively incomprehensible series of free-association bits held together by sheer momentum. Three super-sized food items -- mouthy walking milkshake Master Shake, mumble-mouth adolescent meatball Meatwad, and Frylock, a floating carton of ray-blasting french fries who is (by default) the group brain trust -- fight crime between roommate squabbles in their rundown suburban New Jersey rental. There is an origin story here, in fact about a half-dozen of them (all mutually incompatible and equally nonsensical), and an earthshaking disaster in the form of the exercise machine of the apocalypse, and it's just as cheaply animated. It's either utterly brilliant, dementedly puerile, or a crassly commercial knockoff ... or possibly all three. The first disc of the two-disc set features commentary, a featurette, art gallery and other behind-the-scenes stuff. The second disc features the "80 Minute Deleted Movie" (an alternate film cobbled together from recycled footage, scratch animation and sketches and featuring different dialogue), 10 fake endings, deleted and extended scenes, and music videos. | ||||||||||||||
