PG,1hr 35min Released: November 18, 1983 Distributor: MGM Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Bob Clark's adaptation of Jean Shepherd's novel "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" wasn't a hit when it was first released, but Clark tapped into nostalgia and childhood remembrance so well that it has become one of the best loved Christmas movies of all time via video and TV. Peter Billingsley is the boy who wants a BB gun for Christmas ("You'll put your eye out, kid!") but the film belongs to Darren McGavin as his growling, frenzied, lovably gruff father. Author and radio raconteur Shepherd narrates. The "Ultimate Collector's Edition" features the commentary and featurettes and the marvelous audio collection of original readings by author Shepherd from the previous "Special Edition" release, packaged in a cookie tin with a hardbound recipe book (with photos and quotes from the film), a chef's apron and five cookie cutters. The Blu-ray edition features all the supplements on a single disc. DVD Detailed Information | ||||||||||||||
