R,1hr 21min Released: December 1, 2006 Director: Distributor: ThinkFilm Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Morgan Freeman is perfectly cast as an unnamed actor coasting on past success and effortless charm in Brad Silberling's sweet nothing of an indie character study. The day-in-the-life story has Freeman's character researching a possible role as a supermarket manager in a low-budget drama by traveling to the desolate industrial sprawl of East Los Angeles, where he befriends a cheeky supermarket cashier (Paz Vega), a frustrated immigrant anxious to move up and out of her situation, and then signs himself on as agent, cheerleader and acting coach. The laid-back film is mostly easygoing talk, but Freeman makes you believe this self-effacing superstar genuinely enjoys the company of everyone he meets, whether he's discovering the glories of Target or joining the polish crew at a car wash. Bobby Cannavale co-stars as Vega's brazenly unfaithful, soon-to-be ex-husband. The low-budget production was shot on digital video and previously available as an online purchase in a digital-distribution experiment. This is its DVD debut. | ||||||||||||||
