Ordinarily, a title like The Westward Trail should promise sprawling Western excitement complete with wagon trains, Indian raids, and cavalry rescues. But instead of an epic, you simply get one of those sleepy little Eddie Dean oaters enlivened by a couple of good fistfights and a song or two. Unfortunately, too much footage is awarded to leading lady Phyllis Planchard, whose looks and thespian prowess are straight out of a chorus line, and seemingly endless chases around the all-too-familiar rocks of the Iverson movie ranch. ~ Hans J.
