As we enter Day 113 of the great Where-the-Hell-Is-Suri? Vigil of 2006, there
are vague rumblings that her long-delayed debut may take place in the
not-too-distant future. According to the New York Post, Vanity Fair has nailed
down the first pictures of the conspiracy theory-surrounded but supposedly
sublime offspring of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.
Sources tell the paper that famed photographer Annie Leibovitz has snapped
the mysteriously under-wraps tyke, with the photos set for release "this fall,"
the same nonspecific timetable Cruise has given for his endlessly hyped but
peculiarly drawn-out "big, big plans" to say "I do" with his glassy eyed,
monosyllabic fiancée.
Vanity Fair remains tight-lipped on speculation of Suri's unveiling, as does
Cruise's rep, who explains to MSN Entertainment, "We cannot comment on where
photos might be released at this time."
The "Dianetics"-devoted duo has lately taken a breather from their once
photo-op-packed lifestyle, even skipping last weekend's hoopla at the Los
Angeles Scientology Centre, where L. Ron Hubbard lovers such as John Travolta and Leah Remini gathered to celebrate the church's 37th
anniversary.
But as an ever-growing number of suspicious types (and you know who you are)
wonder how paparazzi have failed to capture even a fuzzy image of a blanketed
bundle despite Tom and Katie's frequent forays from his Beverly Hills compound,
several of the actor's pals have come forward to share their Suri sightings.
Last week, Tom's ex, Penélope Cruz, gushed that the infant was "really
beautiful -- she's one of the most beautiful babies I've ever seen," before
quickly clamming up on the subject.
Her superlatives followed similar statements made by Jada Pinkett Smith, who described the ankle-biter as
"gorgeous" and "one of the sweetest babies I've ever met in my life" (as opposed
to all those jerk babies one so often encounters), and Remini, who enthused that
she's "beautiful" and "beaming" and looks just like her "normal parents."
