Romance Report: Breakups for Natalie and Kirsten?

Natalie Portman's hirsute hippie phase appears to be over. People, Us and In Touch are all reporting that she's called it quits with bushy-bearded, shaggy-haired indie folkster Devendra Banhart. The pair, both 27, became an item last March after the actress starred in the singer's "Carmensita" video, and in the months that followed, paparazzi snapped them snuggling up everywhere from New York to Israel, a sighting notable for Devendra's decision to don uncomfortably short gym shorts for their sightseeing. "Things just weren't working out," a Portman insider informs Us. "Natalie is young and they just were very different ultimately. She's really a free spirit. She's complicated because she's very serious about her career and smart but also artistic and freethinking. It's tough to match." Adds a less detail-driven Banhart source to In Touch, "Natalie and Devendra will remain friends but need some space and time away."

In other split whispers, has Kirsten Dunst decided to ditch Justin Long after an all-too-brief interlude? So claims In Touch, which says the starlet, who supposedly avoided the actor-cum-Mac guy's ex Drew Barrymore at a New York City bash last weekend, wants some alone-time after a couple months of togetherness. "They are taking some time off for now," a source explains to the mag. "Kirsten gets bored really easily and she needs a break from men right now. They are still both friends and will hang out." Dunst denied talk of a Long hookup during an interview with the October issue of Harper's Bazaar, calling it "the funniest thing on the planet Earth. I don't know him from Adam." But in recent weeks she's been photographed giggling with him over lunch in Los Angeles and been spied polishing his tonsils at a music festival.

On the other end of the romance spectrum is Ashley Olsen, whose four-month relationship with actor Justin Bartha remains hot and heavy. The couple was in major touchy-feely mode this week in Las Vegas, where the actor, best known as Nicolas Cage's comic relief sidekick in the "National Treasure" flicks, is filming "The Hangover." Not only were Olsen, 22, and Bartha, 30, photographed bumping and grinding on the dance floor of a Sin City hot spot, but FoxNews.com reports they "couldn't keep their hands off each other" during a sushi- and sake-filled dinner out. "They were rubbing each other, hand-touching and there was barely a break in their conversation," recalls an eyewitness. People reports that Ashley also visited her beau on the set of the comedy and he would "touch her face tenderly" between takes. "It's pretty serious," an Olsen mole tells FoxNews. "Ashley is really comfortable with Justin. It's a good fit."

If, as the old saying goes, the couple who wears quirky hats together stays together, then Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds might have a chance at happily ever after (no, we're not buying that either, but just play along). The New York Post says the betrothed lovebirds were seen sporting matching bowlers at a Manhattan club a few nights back. But despite their conspicuous chapeaus, the actress was apparently in no mood to be recognized. The paper says that when the club's doorman asked for a photo with her, she zinged, "I'm not the Statue of Liberty," before making her way inside.

"Noticeably heavier"? Jessica performs at the Los Angeles County Fair on Sept. 21.

In recent pictures, Jessica Simpson has looked like her usual sveltely mammose self, so we're not quite sure what to make of OK!'s seemingly undermining assertion that the countrified starlet has let herself go (the phrase "noticeably heavier" is used) because she's so darn happy with Tony Romo. "She's done depriving herself and missing out on life just to fit into a size 2 jeans," a "friend" tells the magazine. "She doesn't think there's anything wrong with the way she looks." (Nor should she, because there isn't, except when she's wearing cheapie-looking frocks that don't do her figure justice). Anyhoo, the pal says Simpson's Dallas Cowboys beau is all for her more laidback attitude. "Whether she's catching one of Tony's games, or just hanging out with him, she'll throw back a couple of beers, eat some pizza and just have fun," says the confidant. "She is just in a different place than she used to be and her weight gain is a reflection of that." These days, she prefers a feeling of contentment to feeling the burn, pipes in another source. "Her main focus is her country career and finding happiness," relays the snitch. "She just wants to settle down, start a family and live her life."
