So much for those rumblings of Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal's "harshest split yet." Less than two weeks after the elusive twosome reportedly called it quits -- again -- they were spied by USA Today grooving to the song stylings of Rufus Wainwright at the Hollywood Bowl Sunday night. Gyllenspoon, whose drama "Rendition" hits theaters on Oct. 19, weren't the only big names who turned out to hear an off-key Rufus re-create Judy Garland's 1961 performance at Carnegie Hall. Other stars dotting the crowd included Drew Barrymore, Hilary Swank, Rod Stewart, Carrie Fisher and mom Debbie Reynolds, and Jake's godmother, Jamie Lee Curtis.

Hilary Duff is definitely not a cheap date. People reports the toothy starlet just received an early and obscenely extravagant 20th birthday gift from her hockey player-cum-Canadian retail heir beau Mike Comrie, who apparently doesn't subscribe to that whole "it's the thought that counts" philosophy. Hil tells the mag the NHL-er called and said her present was waiting in her sister Haylie's garage, hinting, "I hope you like them," which led her to believe it was "shoes or something." When Duff opened the garage door, she was "like shocked" to discover a Mercedes-Benz G-class SUV with -- cliché alert -- a big red bow on top. Estimated price of the present: $100,000-plus. Hilary yammers to the mag that she was "planning on getting a big car" anyway and considered a Porsche Cayenne until her manager pointed out that she's a "terrible driver" and "didn't need that kind of power." Duff has already driven her hard-to-top gift "tons" and reveals how she bubbled to Comrie, whom she's been dating for about two months, "You're crazy! It's perfect!"

Speaking of luxury vehicles, Zac Efron showed off his snazzy new ride as he simultaneously dispelled rumors of a breakup with his "High School Musical" honey Vanessa Hudgens. The non-threatening teen idol, 19, whose admirers have often gushed about how he's continued to drive a ding-covered Oldsmobile despite his success, was photographed behind the wheel of a luxury Audi on Saturday as he picked up his nekkid-photo posing galpal and headed to a lunch at a Los Angeles eatery, according to People.

Does the couple who shops for major appliances together stay together? Zach Braff was snapped this weekend browsing the refrigerator selection at a Los Angeles-area Lowe's with Shiri Appleby, whom he was first spied smooching in June. The funnyman, 32, and the actress, 28, appear to be getting comfortable showing off their mutual affection -- they continued to clasp digits even as the paparazzi clicked away.

"I don't know what makes [our relationship] work. But it does." That's Jennifer Garner, tempting fate by telling Marie Claire just how functional her marriage to Ben Affleck is. "One thing that makes it not not work is that we're both pretty nice," she opines. "[Ben] is not someone who's ever going to blow up on anyone. What I mean is, if he's ever angry with me, he doesn't act out on it in a weird way or yell at me. And I'm the same. So we can handle conflict in a very loving and adult way." As for the square-jawed Oscar winner's transformation from butt-kissing (literally), Bentley-driving beau of Jennifer Lopez to under-the-radar family man, Garner insists it wasn't her doing. "I don't take any credit for being the woman who tamed [him]," she insists to London's Mail on Sunday. "To me he's just always been an incredibly kind and generous man ... When we eventually got together and had a child I expected him to be a great dad -- and that's exactly what he is."

The revolving door that is Paris Hilton's love life has apparently popped out a pizza delivery guy. The London Sun says the short-attention-span jailbird is "smitten" with an easy-on-the-eyes Swede named Alex Vaggo, whom she met at a Los Angeles club. "He decided to fly to L.A. for a holiday and spent much of the summer working as a pizza delivery boy to raise extra money," a pal of the recent college grad tells the tab. "We were amazed to see how quickly he hooked up with Paris. He's quite a shy, laid-back kind of guy. Paris will probably eat him alive." Vaggo's misguided mother, meanwhile, is busting with pride over her son's sudden notoriety, kvelling to the Sun, "I always knew he'd do something extraordinary with his life."
