Halle Berry: I'm Pregnant!
advertisement

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt better watch her back, because soon there will be another genetically gifted tot on the block. On Tuesday, Halle Berry, 41, confirmed rumors that she's expecting a baby with her model beau, Gabriel Aubry, 31.

"Yes, I am three months pregnant!" she announced in an e-mail to "Access Hollywood." "Gabriel and I are beyond excited, and I've waited a long time for this moment in life."

Halle's only quibble: "Now the next seven months will be the longest of my life!"

Just three weeks ago, the Oscar winner's rep dismissed a report in the National Enquirer that said she was awaiting a visit from the stork.

It was the latest denial for Berry, who has pooh-poohed pregnancy rumblings countless times, although her recent predilection for roomy, belly-concealing clothes has had the rumor mill in overdrive.

No word on whether she's expecting a boy or a girl, although TMZ.com reported back in May that she shelled out more than $1,000 at a Los Angeles baby boutique for items geared toward the feminine set, including pink organic footie pajamas.

Unfortunately, Berry's personal milestone is creating problems professionally. TMZ says production on her forthcoming flick "Tulia," set to be directed by John Singleton and starring her "Monster's Ball" leading man Billy Bob Thornton, has been put on hold because of the bun in her oven.

Still, given how long and often Halle has wistfully talked about becoming a mom, she's probably not too broken up about it.

Earlier this year, the actress fretted to Reader's Digest about whether she would be able to fulfill her dream of domestic bliss.

"I hope that happens," she sighed to the magazine. "It's late; I've waited a little too long. But I want to have children. Absolutely."

She added to People in April, "I would love to start a family, and I hope that a baby finds me someday soon. That would make me really happy!"

And Berry already has some definite ideas on what kind of mother she wants to be.

"I want my kids to realize it's only through hard work that any success or real joy comes," she told the April issue of In Style. "It's not about money; it's the intangible rewards -- having integrity and doing what you say you're going to do."

Halle has wisely kept her nearly two-year romance with Aubry out of the spotlight, not surprising given her tabloid-topping divorces from R&B singer Eric Benet and baseballer David Justice.

The impossibly pretty pair met while shooting a Versace spread in 2005, and Berry revealed to In Style how she was initially taken aback by his restraint.

"... He was disarmingly sweet and caring and different," she gushed. "In the past I've been attracted to big personalities. Gabriel was shy. He hardly talked to me at first."

To win over the strapping Canadian looker, "I had to work at this a little. It wasn't a slam-dunk. It wasn't the guy just showering affection on me. It made it more interesting. We were equally matched -- put it that way."

Just don't expect the couple, who cohabitate in Los Angeles, to get hitched because of their impending bundle of joy.

"Actually it's just that now I've come to a place where I think two people can share their lives without the ring, without the piece of paper," Berry told the mag.

The actress has repeatedly declared she's done with the state of holy matrimony, proclaiming to Oprah in 2004, "I'll never get married again ... I mean it with every bone in my body."

During that same sit-down, she announced that she wanted to become a mom by age 40, saying, "If there's no real serious man, whoever I'm dating at the time I'll say, 'Hey, would you like to have a baby?' I'll sign a paper that will say, 'I won't ask you for one red cent, one thing, but I need to have a baby and you're here, so let's do that.'"

Looks like Halle got her wish -- one year late -- and the "serious man," to boot. Mazel tov!
