Anne Hathaway, who's back on the market after her recent breakup with accused swindler Raffaello Follieri, has decided to block off a potentially busy wooing avenue. "I try not to date where I work. It makes life easier," she tells Britain's Independent newspaper. "Besides, the possibility has never really arisen. I don't say no to anybody, because I'd hope that people wouldn't say no to me just because I'm an actor -- but they'd have to be pretty extraordinary." Or at least more extraordinary than Follieri, who's sitting in the pokey on multiple charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering. The actress, 25, sidesteps specifics on her ex, whom she split with in June after four years of togetherness, opting instead to borrow an apt proverb from Will Rogers. "The worst thing that happens to you can be the best thing for you, if you don't let it get the best of you," notes Hathaway. As for what she's looking for in a beau, besides honesty and an inability to emote on cue, she says, "The goal is to find someone you can be yourself around, who makes you laugh, who challenges you in a good way, and where you just spark off each other." Is Paul McCartney, who endured one of the most bitter and costly divorces in British history, still a hopeless, "I Want to Hold Your Hand"-style romantic? Britain's News of the World is convinced the music icon may be contemplating settling down with squeeze Nancy Shevell, who's currently riding shotgun in an old Ford Bronco as they road-trip across the U.S. on Route 66. "Paul's utterly enchanted with Nancy and he's already rolling the idea of marriage around in his head," a seemingly mind-reading source tells the tabloid. "He adores everything about her. He thinks she's 'The One' and told [daughter] Stella as much. He said, 'What would you say if I asked Nancy to be the next Mrs. McCartney?' And she joked back, 'At least she's financially independent.'" (Stella, you'll recall, was said to be suspicious of Mills from the start.) Still, there is a sticking point for Shevell, a wealthy New York businesswoman whom McCartney was first spied cozying up to in November: She hasn't yet finalized her long-in-the-works divorce, although she is legally separated. "Paul's not about to rush into anything, but he's happier than he's been for years," points out the snitch. "They've got so much in common. He knows Heather was a mistake, although he loves their little one Bea more than anything, and won't be put off by a bad divorce experience." McCartney, who lost beloved wife Linda to cancer in 1998, even got down one knee a few days back, but it was just to get a good shot of Shevell as she posed during a stopover in Santa Fe, N.M. According to the Daily Mail, the couple have been roughing it on their journey by occasionally skipping the comforts of luxury lodging in favor of camping out. "It was incredible to see one of the world's richest musicians going back to basics," marvels a spy. "They didn't seem to have a care in the world."
Sienna Miller and Balthazar Getty have quickly gone from all-consuming passion to humdrum domesticity. Paparazzi spent the weekend trailing the scorn-magnet, rumored-to-be shacking-up squeezes around Malibu, capturing them making a drug store run, doing a little clothes shopping (much needed, judging by those shirts-optional Italy pics) and grabbing a bite to eat. But is the starlet hoping to burnish her dinged reputation with a little help from the actor's estranged wife Rosetta, the mother of his four kids? So claims Britain's News of the World, which says Sienna wants Mrs. Getty to clear her name by stating that she had nothing to do with the breakdown of their eight-year marriage. "Sienna is being portrayed as a femme fatale and fears for her career because Hollywood hates a home wrecker," a snitch explains to the tab. "She hopes Balthazar can get Rosetta to put out a statement saying their marriage was already over. They have already got friends to speak out, saying he was sleeping on their sofas." That might be a tall order, considering Rosetta insiders have previously grumbled that she was "blindsided" when the romance went public. Meanwhile, the London Daily Mail also thinks Miller's hookup with Getty could hurt her professionally, and says the negative press may be why her flick "Hippie Hippie Shake" has been bumped to next year. "One of the main reasons for the delay is Sienna's love life," says a source, who seemingly doesn't subscribe to the "all publicity is good publicity" philosophy. "The studios hope the coverage will have died down by the spring." The production's powers-that-be say the film was always intended for release in 2009. |
