| The Jolie-Pitts talk Viv and Knox and whether they used IVF;
plus, the latest couples news with Reese & Jake and Lindsay & Sam, along
with Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Keira Knightley and more ...
All right, so maybe your pesky case of psoriasis didn't immediately clear up as you gazed upon the first photos of Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Léon in People and Hello!, respectively, but what Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's Wonder Twins lack in magical healing powers they more than make up for in pouty-lipped cuteness, especially when posing with their siblings.
The relaxed, joyful and decidedly down-to-earth spread -- Angelina is wearing a white lace nightgown and minimal makeup -- features all the members of the Jolie-Pitt clan -- Maddox, 7, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 2 -- taking turns holding the double bundles, who arrived on July 12 at Lenval Hospital in Nice, France. "Wanting a big family is one of the things that brought us together," says a tired but contented-looking Jolie in the interview accompanying the shots, for which the magazines reportedly coughed up $14 million (the moolah is expected to go to the do-gooder couple's charitable foundation). Pipes in Pitt, "Always said if I were to do it, I'd do it big." The megastars, who said "fromage" for the camera at their rented $70 million chateau in the south of France, where they've been holed up for the last few months, obligingly offer up details about the twins, including their reaction to the two-for-the-price-of-one news. "Angie was on the table during the sonogram, and we were in hysterics," recalls Brad. "We did not see this one coming." Adds Angelina, "We were in shock, and could not stop laughing." But she says there's no truth to reports that their dual stork delivery was the result of medical intervention. (A source recently told Us Weekly that the actress opted for in vitro so "she wouldn't have to deal with the stress of trying to get pregnant. She could just knock it out.") "If they had been conceived through IVF, we would have been happy to discuss it," says Jolie, whose interview openness includes recently enthusing to Entertainment Weekly that pregnancy is "great for the sex life." "But we have been fortunate enough never to have had fertility problems." When Knox and Vivienne finally made their eagerly anticipated debut, "I knew [that because they're twins] they would be premature, so when I saw they were big and screaming with healthy lungs, I was at peace," sighs Angelina, who underwent a C-section. Brad, for his part, calls witnessing that particular miracle of childbirth an "absolutely heroic" process, and rhapsodizes that the sight of his newest progeny filled him with "an awe words fail to describe." As for how they decided on the tots' monikers, "The name Vivienne came to us early, as if she named herself," explains Pitt. "She has always been Viv. And Marcheline is to honor Angie's mother [Marcheline Bertrand, who passed away in January of 2007]. Knox came soon after. It is a family name, my grandfather's. Léon is a classic French name." According to Jolie, "Every time I see or say Vivienne's full name, I think of my mom. I look forward to the day she asks about her and I can tell her how special her grandmother was." And while the twins can do little more right now than eat, sleep, burp and soil their diapers, the actor is convinced they're already displaying certain genetic traits. "Viv is proving to resemble Ange in spirit, attitude and physicality. She is quite elegant like her mother," he kvells. "And Knox, a bit of me. He likes music like his dad. When he was born he looked like Putin!" Some other highlights from the interview, which is on newsstands now (what are you waiting for? Go on, go pick up a copy): On feeding time: "We try to get the twins to eat simultaneously for the sake of time management," says Pitt, "but it gets a little crowded at the bar." On carving out quality parent-to-child time: "We do manage," insists Jolie. "With six kids it takes up the majority of the day. Of course we get tired. We made a decision to have a big family and support each other and make it work." On preparing the older kids for two more: "There's a 'Dora the Explorer' [episode] where Dora's mom has twins -- a boy and a girl," she says. "They watched that a lot. They were excited." On how they marked the twins' arrival: "We had cupcakes for the kids to celebrate Knox and Viv's birthday," reveals Angelina. On how the sisters pitch in: "Shiloh calls them her babies. She and Z pick out clothes and help change and hold them," their proud mom shares. "It's sweet -- they are little mommies." On rumors Jolie watched "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" while on bed rest at the hospital: "I've never seen that show. I watched 'The War' by Ken Burns. I figured it would be the only chance I had to watch a 15-hour documentary." On Brad and Angelina's blended brood: "Each of our children is unique and special to us," states Jolie. "It makes no difference if they're biological or adopted." |
