It looks like there's at least one person Lindsay Lohan can count on in the wake of her weekend car crash and subsequent arrest for suspicion of DUI
(with an alleged cocaine chaser).
And it isn't her excuses-making mom-ager Dina or her friends-cum-hangers-on
or even her bodyguard -- it's her lawyer.
TMZ.com reports that on Monday, the fast-and-loose-living starlet's attorney
drove her to Promises, the deluxe Malibu, Calif., treatment center where a
be-balded Britney Spears holed up for a 30-day stint earlier this year.
"She finally realizes it's the right thing to do," a "close friend" of
Lindsay's tells In Touch. "She is going willingly."
And while a less frills-heavy clinic such as Hazelden in Minnesota might be a
better fit for the reckless and rapidly aging actress, 20, what with its
paparazzi- and daytrip-deterring location, insiders assure TMZ that this is "a
serious medical treatment program."
It's an assertion backed up by her rep, who said in a statement on Tuesday
(via People), "Lindsay admitted herself to an intensive medical rehabilitation
facility on Memorial Day. Because this is a medical matter, it is our hope that
the press will appreciate the seriousness of the situation and respect the
privacy of Lindsay as well as the other patients receiving treatment at the
facility."
Help can't seem to come too soon.
Instead of lying low after her drama-fueled Friday night, which included
pre-crash stops at Los Angeles hot spot Les Deux, where Us Weekly says she was
"swigging vodka," and the Mondrian Hotel's Skybar, where a spy tells the mag she
"was a wreck," Lohan was once again back on the town.
In Touch says the actress was whooping it up "as hard as ever" at a Memorial
Day pool party at nightclub Teddy's, where she was supposedly insisting she
wasn't worried about the repercussions of her arrest.
"She was in a great mood," a fellow reveler tells People.
After supposedly stumbling out of the club around 4 a.m., she was snapped by
photo agency X17 with her eyes closed and mouth wide open as she sat in the
passenger seat of a car driven by her DJ pal Samantha Ronson, who was said to
have been with Lohan when she treed her Mercedes Saturday morning.
The sad tableau also included -- irony alert -- several "30 day" sobriety
chips prominently hanging from the rearview mirror.
"She couldn't even move when she got in the car," a spy tells the New York
Post. "Samantha was poking her. She didn't respond. She was totally passed out."
This is Lindsay's second rehab stay in less than six months. In January, she
checked into a monthlong program at the spa-inspired Wonderland clinic, which
allows patients who've become bored of the on-site yoga classes and beauty
consultations to venture offsite and into the world.
"It's so weird that I went to rehab," she told the May issue of Allure. "I
always said I would die before I went to rehab ... I don't know that I'm
necessarily an addict."
Meanwhile, the fallout from Lohan's purportedly pedestrian-endangering
weekend escapades has begun.
The New York Daily News reports Svedka Vodka, which imprudently inked a
lucrative deal to co-sponsor the AA attendee's two-day blowout 21st birthday
bash in Las Vegas on July 2 and 3, now says it won't be involved in the
celebration, which will likely be canceled.
Also unclear is the fate of her role in the septuagenarian crime-comedy "Poor
Things," which starts filming later this week with Shirley MacLaine and Rosario Dawson.
Lindsay is due to be arraigned Aug. 24, although USA Today speculates she
could strike a plea bargain before that.
"She's a troubled girl. Maybe this will be her wake-up call, but at this
point, we don't know," a "friend" tells Us, with a "family source" adding to
People, "We are all praying for her."
