Jennifer Aniston is well aware that whenever she breaks
bread within spitting distance of an eligible bachelor, romantic speculation
immediately kicks into overdrive. But that didn't stop her from reportedly
enjoying two -- count 'em, two! -- intimate meals with John Mayer last Friday in Miami.
The actress, 39, who is in town shooting "Marley & Me" with Owen Wilson, apparently had so much fun sharing lunch a deux
with the lady-killer crooner, 30, that she met up with him later that night for
a tactile dinner.
According to People, the impeccably coiffed pair's afternoon meal at
Michael's was all about privacy, with the restaurant opening especially for them
at 3:30 p.m.
During their 90-minute tête-à-tête, Aniston chowed down on a chopped chicken
salad while Mayer lived on the edge by ordering that most dangerous rock 'n'
roll delicacy, the ham sandwich (not only has the pork-tastic treat mistakenly
been blamed for felling Mama Cass, but it once caused a peckish Neil Young to slice open his index finger).
An eatery staffer tells the mag that Jen had a bite of John's sandwich as
they chatted across from one another in a booth, their shiny-haired noggins
"close together." They later shared a chocolate-and-peanut-butter dessert.
It "definitely seemed like a date," a spy posits to Us.
A few hours later, Aniston and Mayer turned up at the South Beach eatery Casa
Tua.
"They were affectionate -- definitely touchy-feely," an eyewitness informs
Us. "The room they ate in was almost empty. They both drank Belinis."
Adds a spy to the New York Daily News, "They looked awful cozy. It didn't
look like a new thing. They sat and talked close to each other all night."
People reports the twosome exited a little before 1 a.m., with the
romantically capricious musician making sure to put one of his overly tattooed
arms around the former Mrs. Pitt, who supposedly just ended a surreptitious liaison with a crew member on her
forthcoming flick "Traveling."
Jen and John were said to be hand-in-hand when they arrived back at their
hotel.
While Aniston's rep didn't respond to our request for comment on her quality
time with Mayer, the National Enquirer claims the duo's mutual pal Sheryl Crow acted as matchmaker.
"Sheryl thinks the world of both Jen and John, and knows that they've both
been looking for that special someone," a "friend" tells the tab. "So while
Sheryl is doing tour dates in Florida, she decided to set the two of them up on
a date in Miami."
It should be noted that Mayer, who was purportedly seen putting the moves on
Pussycat Doll D-lister Nicole Scherzinger earlier this month, has now been linked
to all three big-name blondes who appeared on the cover of Us Weekly's July 2007
story, "Why They Can't Find Love: Beautiful, Rich and Alone."
Aniston completed a triptych of lonely hearts, which also featured the
floppy-haired Casanova's then-recent ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson and his future dirty dancing partner, Cameron Diaz.
Coincidence or Mayer's own personal Everest? Your call.
And just in case Jennifer needs some dating tips, Mayer helpfully outlined his wish list for the perfect woman in a chat with Best Life
magazine earlier this year.
"I want a woman who doesn't hear 'How are you?' as 'I would like you to come
up with something dramatic now that will allow me to sit in front of you and
give you more attention than I would have if you had just said, 'No
complaints,'" he babbled. "When I find the person I can relate to on that level
and who is also a pinup and who also says, 'Can I please take pictures of your
ass?' then I am going to get married to her. That I can promise you."
Meanwhile, as Aniston was noshing with Mayer, her "Marley & Me" co-star
was taking in the sights with buddies new and old.
People reports Wilson appeared "a little disheveled and withdrawn from
everyone" as he hit Nobu Friday night with pals before meeting up with -- whoa,
random -- rehabbed rocker Richie Sambora at a nearby club.
"Owen and Richie were just chilling together, talking at a table," says a
source.
The next day, the actor, who has spent the last few weekends in the company
of on-again sweetheart Kate Hudson, was joined by his "Wedding Crashers" cohort Vince Vaughn.
People reports the duo tossed a private bash at the aforementioned Casa Tua
that lasted until sunrise.
Still, that didn't stop Owen and Vince from hopping on their bikes a few
hours later for a ride around the boardwalk.
