Things have been relatively quiet on the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes front in recent weeks, but it looks
like the rumor mill is chugging back to life. The latest whispers emanating from
the always-wacky world of TomKat include rumblings of a possible sibling for
11-month-old Suri, and Cruise's alleged laserlike focus on his wife's comeback
vehicle.
First up are the bundle-of-joy burblings, courtesy of TMZ.com, which claims a
"confidante" of the couple recently stopped by tony (and PR-savvy) Los Angeles
baby boutique Petit Tresor to discuss commissioning four nursery design
"scenarios," specifically in the sports, nursery rhyme, cartoon and color blue
genres.
"We want to be prepared for a baby boy," the acquaintance was supposedly
overheard blabbing.
TMZ says the store was given until April 15 -- three days before Suri
celebrates her first birthday -- to draw up plans for the $45,000-plus room.
Also raising eyebrows higher than the needle of a Thetan-detecting e-meter is
an online baby registry at the swanky shop under TomKat's name.
The detailed list, which was created back in December, asks for a wide range
of blue-hued items, including a Moses basket ($255), plaid bedding ($680), blue
puppy slippers ($22), a boy-themed gift pack ($1,000) and a polka-dot rug
($495).
There's also a request for a $16 wooden "A," which has already sparked
moniker speculation (personally, we're partial to Archibald Cruise).
So does this mean we should brace for a rerun of the long national nightmare
that was Katie's elephant-like gestation period with the conspiracy-surrounded
Suri? Or could the "Dianetics"-devoted duo be considering going the adoption
route, as Cruise did with kids Connor and Isabella?
Perhaps neither.
When we contacted Cruise's rep for comment on the nursery nattering and
registry list, he was quick to inform us, "None of [it] is true."
(The registry, by the by, is no longer listed under their names.)
In other TomKat news, Holmes will soon take a break from the Barneys-browsing
life of leisure she's led since hooking up with Cruise to co-star opposite
Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah in the heist comedy "Mad Money."
But is she heading back to work with Tom in tow?
The New York Post says her oh-so-attentive and apparently free-time-having
hubby intends to accompany her to the Shreveport, La., shoot.
"Tom has called producers and told them he will be on set every day," a mole
tells the paper. "He wants to observe what's going on and will probably help
Katie out."
But one of the pic's execs professes ignorance over the plan, saying, "I
don't know if that's the case, so I can't confirm. We are happy to have both
Katie and Tom on set."
The source adds that Katie, who in the pre-Tom era had no trouble flashing
her naughty bits on screen, accepted the role "because it is a female buddy
movie. There is no love interest and she wouldn't be kissing anyone or have a
sex scene."
The paper also speculates that she may have turned down a role in the "Batman" sequel because she would have been required to
cuddle up to the rubber-encased body of Christian Bale.
In Touch, meanwhile, puts a slightly more ominous spin on TomKat's
joined-at-the-hip status, claiming Cruise, unhappy with Holmes' plan to bring
Suri on location, "wants to rearrange his schedule" to tag along for the
whole six-week shoot.
"Tom wants to be with Katie at all times," a "family friend" tells the mag.
