Brandon Routh's weekend wedding to longtime love
Courtney Ford was the stuff Homer Simpson's dreams are made of. "Entertainment Tonight" reports
the "Superman Returns" star's elaborate nuptials on Saturday near
Santa Barbara, Calif., included a donut machine that served up tasty, sugary
treats to guests.
The strapping, square-jawed groom, 28, swapped his revealing Lycra tights for
a cashmere suit while the actress-bride, 29, made the long walk down the aisle
in a beaded white Chantilly lace gown by Junko Yoshioka.
They traded self-penned vows in front of about 150 friends, family and
business associates, including Routh's Man of Steel director Bryan Singer and co-star Kate Bosworth, who more than likely steered clear of
the donut machine.
The swanky affair took place at the Jon Peters-owned El Capitan Ranch, which "The Insider" reports undertook $1
million in renovations for the wedding, erecting rock walls, a man-made lake,
waterfalls and fountains that were set to spray water at the words, "You may now
kiss the bride."
The ceremony, described as "country chic," was capped off with fireworks
(feel free to insert your own, "Look, up in the sky!" joke here).
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (still sounds funny even after
all these years) also reportedly flexed some political muscle for the
less-than-high-profile couple, granting their request to clear the airspace over
the ranch in order to keep out helicopter-hovering paparazzi.
But even the ritziest wedding just wouldn't be complete without a moment of
over-the-top schmaltz, which in this case was provided by Routh, who
romantically crooned a ditty to his new wife.
The newlyweds met about four years ago at the Lucky Strike bowling alley in
Los Angeles, where the actor was working as a bartender and Ford was attending
her brother's wedding rehearsal dinner.
"He met my whole family the day he met me," she told People, with a moony
Routh later adding, "She brings me to my knees."
