Has the Hollywood dating pool shrunk to the size of a birdbath? Eyebrows shot
sky-high over the weekend when surfer Kelly Slater tussled with paparazzi while making the scene in Tel Aviv with
Bar Refaeli, the model who took Gisele Bundchen's place on Leonardo DiCaprio's arm shortly after the Brazilian
bombshell rebounded with the bald-pated wave rider.
Refaeli's quality time with Slater immediately sparked speculation there was
trouble afoot in her low-key, year-plus romance with the modelizing actor, a
rift confirmed by a mole "close to the couple," who informs People they have
parted ways "on great terms."
"The relationship ran its course," explains the insider. "It's bad enough
having a cross-country relationship, but it's obviously a lot more difficult
trying to maintain a relationship across oceans, and across continents, when
both of them are very busy."
Concludes the sound bite-savvy source, "He's a great guy, and she's very
sweet. These things happen. They had fun."
DiCaprio, 32, hooked up with Refaeli, 22, in the spring of 2006, several
months after his fickle, five-year romance with Bundchen went belly-up. The
leggy supermodel was soon seen snuggling up with Slater, a liaison that lasted
about eight months.
But is the surfing champ making a habit of swooping in on DiCaprio's comely
castoffs when they're at their most vulnerable?
Apparently not.
Slater, who was in Israel as part of a bridge-building surf camp with Israeli
and Palestinian kids, asserts to E!'s "Daily 10" that he's not
wooing Refaeli.
He says he simply bumped into the looker at a local club and hitched a ride
with her back to his hotel.
As for Bundchen, she remains hot and heavy -- and how -- with New England
Patriots star Tom Brady.
The genetically superior squeezes were snapped spit-shining each other's
tonsils while clubbing in Miami Sunday night, perhaps in celebration of the
quarterback's team-record six touchdown passes against the Dolphins earlier that
day.
"It was almost embarrassing to watch," an eyewitness to their blatant
nuzzling tells the New York Daily News. "She was holding his face, and they kept
kissing all night. They ignored everyone. But they wore matching outfits, jeans
and white tops, and looked cute together."
The next day, it was more of the same, according to the Boston Herald, which
says Gisele and Tom tangled tongues -- and passed each other a piece of gum --
while catching some rays at the swanky Setai Hotel.
