Lindsay's 'Betty' Exit: Bad Attitude or Bad Acting?

Posted Oct. 23, 2008

Wherever Lindsay Lohan goes, drama follows. In a plotline that sounds better than anything we've seen on "Ugly Betty" so far this season, the New York Post accuses the actress of behaving badly -- and failing to wear undies -- during her abbreviated guest-starring stint on the America Ferrera-headlined ABC show.

"It was a mess," relays a production insider. "Lindsay would show up every day with an entourage of people. She smoked 24/7, and after she left, they had to repaint her dressing room it was such a mess."

Other character-dinging charges leveled against the Samantha Ronson-squabbling actress include claims that she "would obsessively cut pictures of herself out of the tabloids like she was creating some sort of scrapbook and refused to go on set until America was there -- it was a power play."

In between blackening her lungs and supposedly ascending to new heights of tabloid-based self-involvement, Lohan may have accidentally flashed the cast and crew while filming the "Granny Pants" episode airing Thursday night, which ABC is conveniently promoting with the tagline "Lindsay Lohan is bringing the drama."

Word is the actress, who plays Kimmie, Betty's high school tormenter, was rehearsing a scene in which she gets pantsed by Ferrera in retaliation for a prank she pulled during their formative years.

The problem, says the snitch, was that "Lindsay wasn't wearing any underwear."

Granted, it's nothing anyone with an Internet connection hasn't seen many (many) times before, but a Lohan insider insists her days of going commando are behind (bad pun, but it's staying) her.

"Bull[bleep]! Lindsay wears underwear all the time now," the confidant rails to the paper. "She was wearing a G-string. And it was America's fault. They were rehearsing the scene and America wasn't supposed to pull Lindsay's pants down, but she did. Lindsay was so embarrassed, she started crying."

As for the stale smoke-stinking dressing room accusation, the friend deflects the blame onto the seemingly nicotine-loving cast of "Fringe," who also use the room.

"So maybe they messed it up," posits the pal, who also defends LiLo -- not very successfully -- against the entourage talk. "Yeah, she had her sober companion with her, as well as her manager, assistant and Samantha Ronson. Her publicist was there a couple of times. But so what?"

The source holds Ferrera responsible for Lohan's dismissal from the show after only four episodes instead of the scheduled six (the small-screen gig was intended to be a major step toward rehabilitating her ailing career).

"America was mean to Lindsay," snipes the insider. "Producers give her too much power. Lindsay didn't do the last two episodes because America didn't like her and got her kicked off."

Another snitch claims Ferrera was just jealous of Lohan, sneering to Us, "America couldn't handle Lindsay stealing her thunder."

(No word on whether there was any exasperated eye rolling involved.)

But E! News believes the ditching decision had more to do with Lindsay's thespian choices.

"They don't plan to have her back for more episodes," says a spy. "She was not so interested in creating a character. She was more interested in just playing herself, and that doesn't work on a show like this with such heightened reality."

Ferrera's rep puts a positive spin on Lindsay's appearance, diplomatically telling the Post, "America is grateful to have had her on the show and thinks everyone should tune in to see how great the episodes are."

Adds Lohan's rep, slightly less diplomatically, "Lindsay was scheduled for six episodes and is appearing in four but had a lovely time."

This is hardly the first time Lindsay's attitude has been called into question.

In July 2006, she received a sternly worded letter from the head of the production company behind "Georgia Rule," who labeled her "discourteous, irresponsible and unprofessional" due to her frequent tardiness and absences.
