Couples News: Reese Feels Lucky, Butler Gets Flirty & More

Reese Witherspoon looked completely at ease as she held hands and shared a few laughs with Jake Gyllenhaal as they strolled through London last weekend with a lingerie store bag in hand and the paparazzi in tow, but she's wisely keeping her guard up when it comes to sharing details about their year-plus romance. In a relatively snooze-y interview with the November issue of Vogue (a good bit of the focus is on "Four Christmases," her unpromising-looking upcoming comedy with Vince Vaughn), the Oscar-winning mom of Ava, 9, and Deacon, 4, speaks of her newly buff and scruffy amour in only the vaguest terms. "He's very supportive," allows the former Mrs. Ryan Phillippe. "Suffice it to say, I'm very happy in life, and I'm very lucky to have a lot of really supportive people around me who care very much for me, and, you know, that's all you can hope for in life. I am very blessed in that way." The spotlight-avoiding pair is rumored to be house hunting in London, where Gyllenhaal has been filming the big-budget epic "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time." "I am convinced they will eventually marry ... and I really think it will be for good," a Jake pal recently declared to the Chicago Sun-Times. "I know we're talking about Hollywood stars, but these two have something special."

In between supposedly not visiting recuperating ex-husband Travis Barker and posting not-so-cryptic messages about him on her MySpace page, Shanna Moakler has managed to move several rungs up the Hollywood food chain. On Monday night, she was caught on camera looking thisclose to Gerard Butler at the opening of hot spot Shin (the Scottish actor is a co-owner of the eatery). People says the two have been acquainted for a while and were just "flirting innocently," with a spy adding to OK!, "They weren't making out. If you look closely at the photos, they're really just talking closely. There's nothing salacious about it." What's more, says the source, "Gerard's upset they're being construed as anything else." Butler isn't exactly one to show restraint when it comes to romantic denials. Not only did he recently brush off rumors linking him to Jennifer Aniston after they shared a brief tête-à-tête at the Toronto Film Festival (it was "absolutely nothing," he scoffed to E! News), but last spring he shot down reports of a Cameron Diaz hookup by colorfully zinging, "If I take my dog for a walk, apparently I'm [bleeping] my dog."

A few solo outings on the red carpet and a bit of tabloid speculation are all that was needed for rift rumblings to swirl around Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson. When the brand-expanding starlet turned up solo Monday at the New York launch of her new leggings line and the premiere of Madonna's "Filth and Wisdom," it added fuel to a London Daily Mail report that claimed the inamoratas were "on the rocks after a string of arguments." But all remains sunshine and rainbows for Lindsay and Sam, according to the actress's rep, who tells "Access Hollywood," "They are fine." Ronson also shrugged off the speculation when confronted by a paparazzo Monday night in Los Angeles, furrowing her brow and responding, "Are you [bleeping] kidding me?" She then added testily, "I don't even know what you're talking about." Besides, People reports the pair was acting touchy-feely Friday night at Chicago's Crimson Lounge, where they "kissed, texted and danced back-to-back" during Ronson's deejay set.

Did Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have a motive other than googly-eyed devotion when they decided to renew their relatively fresh wedding vows in a "spur-of-the-moment" ceremony last weekend in Las Vegas? The Chicago Sun-Times says J.Lo learned that a couple of tabloids were trying to ferret out if there was trouble a-brewing in their twin-filled paradise, and their "I do" redo was a pre-emptive strike to scuttle the stories and prove their commitment to each other after four years of marriage. "This is one couple whose marriage is just fine -- trust me," an insider assures the paper. "They are very happy together."

Speaking of being happy together, that's the impression Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley attempted to give off by tightly holding hands while stepping out for dinner at Los Angeles restaurant Madeo on Monday night. The ersatz edgy duo's decision to break bread at a paparazzi hot spot was apparently an attempt to quell rumblings of trouble in their two-year marriage, which were kick-started last week by the National Enquirer. The tab claimed they were "headed for trouble" because of the sometime Sum 41 front man's "bar-hopping and seemingly bachelor-like behavior." "Deryck isn't motivated in his own career, so he's been drinking and partying," contended a source. "Avril and Deryck have been growing apart for months." But in a rebuttal posted Tuesday on Sum 41's Web site, the couple struck back at the "totally false gossip," insisting, "For the record, we strongly deny the inference of martial [sic] problems between Avril and Deryck. We also strongly deny the National Enquirer claims of any other liaisons. Deryck has in fact been travelling through Asia performing with Avril as evidenced by the numerous Youtube videos." Piped in Whibley, "I'm actually very surprised that so many media outlets picked this story up. Since when did the National Enquirer become a trustworthy news source?"
