Jennifer Aniston & John Mayer 'Lovey-Dovey' Once Again?

Posted Oct. 14, 2008

Has absence (of either the physical or PR variety) made Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer's hearts grow fonder?

Two months after the motormouthed crooner indiscreetly declared on camera, "I ended a relationship to be alone because I don't want to waste somebody's time if something's not right," he and his well-coiffed but love-unlucky ex have reportedly been spied cozying up once again.

The first sighting comes courtesy of Us Weekly, which says Aniston, 39, and Mayer, who turns 31 on Thursday, popped up together at a Ray LaMontagne concert Friday in Boston, where Mayer spent the week lecturing at his alma mater, the Berklee College of Music (among his words of advice to students: "Never apologize ever -- in bed or on stage").

"It was a very public date," a mole tells the magazine, which adds that the pair, whose romance kicked off in April with a tabloid-topping round of poolside PDA in Miami before crashing and burning in August, then winged to New York for the weekend.

That's where TMZ and Star pick up their trail, with the former reporting that they dined a deux at an Italian eatery and the latter claiming they enjoyed "intimate" sushi meals at Mayer's apartment.

On Monday, Jen and John hopped a flight to Los Angeles, according to the National Enquirer, which contends they were all over each other by the time the plane touched down around 4 p.m.

"They were very lovey-dovey," a spy maintains to the tab. "They kissed several times and hugged each other tightly. John gave her a long, lingering kiss."

For now, the actress's rep is tight-lipped on the reunion reports, telling MSN Entertainment, "We don't comment on the endless rumors and speculation about Jennifer's private life."

But while we're on the subject of the endless rumors and speculation, TMZ says Aniston, whose brief tête-à-tête with Gerard Butler at the Toronto Film Festival touched off hookup talk (he insisted to E! News that "absolutely nothing" was going on), kept in touch with Mayer after their very public flameout.

The reunion upshot, posits TMZ, "is not necessarily black and white -- that they may be more than not involved but less than involved." Got that?

Star, meanwhile, believes the verbose singer wooed his former flame by sending her a "barrage of romantic e-mail."

"At first Jennifer was afraid to respond to John's messages because she was afraid he'd break her heart again," a snitch tells the tab. "The e-mails were especially poetic -- like love songs. He said he'd never stop loving her and he's been very, very persuasive."

Aniston would have reason to be reticent given the mudslinging that took place in the aftermath of the bust-up, when insiders from both camps pointed fingers over whose behavior was ultimately responsible for the parting of ways.

A source asserted to Us that Jen was the one who pulled the plug on the relationship, taking pains to point out that she "would be well within her rights to tell the whole world everything about that creep."

But the London Daily Mirror claimed Mayer ended things with uncharacteristic brevity by using that most modern of methods -- the text message.

"She is so intent on getting married and having children, he felt hemmed in," a source told the paper. "After a 20-minute phone conversation, he just said, 'I can't take it anymore,' and hung up. Then he texted, "That's it -- the end."

But John apparently has a habit of returning to his onetime conquests, as seen with his reported string of breakups and makeups with Jessica Simpson before they finally stuck a fork in the relationship.

"He never ends things with a clean slate," a buddy told People in August. "He likes to dwell on these relationships and sort everything out before saying goodbye for good."

Still, even when Mayer was ungentlemanly gabbing to the press about being the dumper, not the dumpee (a move Us says left Aniston "completely humiliated and just sick to her stomach"), he had nothing but nice things to say.

Aniston, he proclaimed, "is the smartest, most sophisticated person I think I've ever met. ... It's about time somebody stands up for that girl, and I think she's great."
