Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz probably had plenty to chitchat about
while partying at Los Angeles hotspot Hyde Tuesday night with a fast-healing Lindsay Lohan.
One possible hot topic of conversation for the "Charlie's Angels" pals: readjusting to the single life.
Drew, 31, is rumored to be flying solo these days after reportedly calling it
quits with longtime love Fabrizio Moretti, while Cameron, 34, confirmed on
Thursday that she and Justin Timberlake have "ended our romantic relationship, and
have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one
another."
Let's begin with Barrymore, who may have tempted the Fates when she marveled over the steadiness of her nearly five-year
relationship with the Strokes drummer, 26, during a sit-down for the February
issue of Harper's Bazaar.
According to Us Weekly, the winsome, twice-divorced actress was the one who
decided to put a fork in their low-key, live-in relationship (they were
reportedly cohabitating in New York City).
"Drew said they needed time off," a Drew confidante tells the magazine, with
a Moretti insider corroborating, "Fab is now living back in his old apartment."
So what went wrong?
"He's younger, and she's more worldly," explains a mole. "He doesn't like the
Hollywood stuff. He doesn't get her friends."
But the hipster honeys have purportedly parted ways twice before, leading the
optimistic source to hold out hope for a reconciliation: "This is exactly what
happened last time they took a break."
The sunny star made it clear to Harper's that she tends to have a laid-back
approach to togetherness, advising, "Don't take love and your relationship so
godda**ed heavy all the time."
As for Fab, she presciently enthused, "Right now I'm in a phase of 'I'm not
even your girlfriend. I'm your best friend who is madly in love with you.'"
Diaz, meanwhile, sidestepped questions about her split from Timberlake, 25,
while making the scene Tuesday night at the People's Choice Awards, where she
collected a prize for Favorite Leading Lady.
But Us believes it was the crooner's recent decision to hire Scarlett Johansson, 22, as the love interest in his video
for "What Goes Around" that ultimately doomed their almost four-year
relationship.
"Scarlett has always liked Justin," an insider avows in the mag's
"Justin's Revenge Romance" cover story. "They've always had a flirtation --
that's why Cameron was threatened by her."
The casting of the pneumatic Sexiest Woman Alive, who once dated Diaz's ex Jared Leto and was recently linked to Josh Hartnett, purportedly caused tensions to boil over with
Cam and Justin, and "paved the way for Johansson to move in for the kill."
"[Diaz] could not believe he went behind her back to put her in the video,"
says a friend of the "Sexyback" singer. "Cameron was very jealous of Scarlett."
The source then helpfully adds that Johansson and Timberlake "definitely got
together after she did the video."
The pair, who reportedly enjoyed an "intimate" hour-long tête-à-tête last Wednesday
at a shindig following the L.A. premiere of his flick "Alpha Dog," are only in "the beginning stages" of a romance,
says Us, but are "excited to get to know each other."
Earlier this week, Scarlett's rep downplayed the Justin whispers, telling
MSN.com, "Their professional relationship has transpired into a friendship --
nothing more, nothing less."
And finally, there's no word on how the frequently hospital-gown bedecked
Lohan, 20, ended up as the proverbial third wheel during Drew and Diaz's night
on the town, but it turns out she may share their weakness for musically
inclined men.
The New York Daily News says the catfighting starlet, who we hope was offered
some sage advice on avoiding the pitfalls of fame by reformed wild child
Barrymore, recently hooked up with Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz.
Wentz, who's been recently linked to LiLo's sometime sparring partners Ashlee Simpson and Michelle Trachtenberg, has at least one thing in
common with the AA-attending actress: They both like to tussle.
The coif-challenged rocker reportedly let loose his flying fists of fury
during a scuffle last weekend at a concert in Albuquerque. |
