Is it possible that 20th Century Fox is going to churn out two superhero
movies next summer? According to The Hollywood Reporter, that's exactly the
studio's plan after announcing that the "X-Men" spin-off, "Wolverine," will arrive in theaters in 2007.
Well, maybe. The adamantium-clawed mutant himself, Hugh Jackman, sent a videotaped message confirming
the news to the European theater owners attending Cine Expo in Amsterdam this
week. However, that was somewhat odd timing as screenwriter David Benioff ("Troy") is still working on a screenplay and no director is
attached. The Hitlist contacted Fox, which would not officially confirm or deny
the story, but insiders say finding a time to shoot in Jackman's busy schedule
will be extremely difficult. If Fox can somehow work around Jackman's musical
tour of "The Boy From Oz" in Australia this summer and expected promotion for
two fall dramas "The Fountain" and "The Prestige," then "Wolverine" would be the studios' second
superhero movie for summer 2007. The second "Fantastic Four" movie, speculatively titled "Fantastic Four and
the Silver Surfer," is beginning production this August for a June 15, 2007,
release. With "Spider-Man 3," "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,"
"Shrek 3," "Pirates of the Caribbean 3," "Transformers," "Rush Hour 3" and
"Ocean's Thirteen" all vying for summer box office as well, 2007 could turn out
to be a monster that even Wolverine can't handle.

Festival, and more.

The Hitlist is going to take a well-deserved few days off, so look for a
post-Fourth of July edition next Thursday. See you in six. |
