'Kong' Kicks It Off For Black

2006 is shaping up to be the year of the Jack -- Jack Black, that is. The rock-and-roll actor has so much going on that most of his comments at his "King Kong" press conference weren't about playing the nefarious Carl Denham, but all the other projects in his pipeline. Here is a quick rundown from Black himself:

"Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny" - "I don't know what the release date is right now," Black says of the rock epic featuring his infamous band. "We are going in to do a re-shoot of the finale. I thought the finale was kick ass ... but then we watched it, and the movie is so exciting and ridiculous up to that point ... the world had to explode or something had to happen, you know? This was my first time writing and producing, so it's a learning curve."

"Holiday" - Black is currently shooting this romantic comedy opposite Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. He plays an L.A. guy who falls for a newly arrived Londoner (Winslet). The Nancy Meyers ("What Women Want") production should be out by the end of 2006.

"Nacho Libre" - Asked about his current mustache, Black says, "I just finished playing a Mexican wrestler in Mexico. I haven't had time to shave it." He teams up with director Jared Hess in Hess' first movie since the landmark "Napoleon Dynamite." This film also re-teams Black with Mike White, his costar in "School of Rock" (remember Ned Schneebly?). White penned that flick and helped co-write "Libre."

"Heat Vision and Jack" - It was originally a legendary failed TV pilot directed by Ben Stiller, and now Black is overseeing a movie adaptation. "I am an astronaut that got too close to the sun. I come back to earth and something is wrong with me," he says. "Whenever the sun hits me I become the smartest man in the world -- hilarious, I know."

"Kung Fu Panda" - This DreamWorks animated feature has Black as a lazy Panda who has to learn to defend his peaceful home. It should be out sometime in 2008.

"Them" - Black says this adaptation of Jon Ronson's novel is "about all the extremists of the world ... and what they all have in common. How a lot of them believe that the whole world is controlled by a small group of billionaires and they control all the wars and it is basically a big conspiracy theory. When you look at the people who have these theories, there is a lot of humor, but there is also this little thing like, 'Wait a second, maybe it is true. Maybe there are these rich, scary [expletive] who are controlling everything and having dinner parties and doing blow.'" With no script yet, look for this one down the line.
