A 'Quantum' of Facts on the Latest Bond Flick
advertisement

Secrets are important to every intelligence agent, none more so than James Bond. The latest Bond flick, "Quantum of Solace," has its share of secrets that should remain unrevealed until the film's release, but, in the meantime, here are some answers 007 fans worldwide have been dying to know.

Amy Winehouse has been chosen to sing the film's title song.
False.
For now at least. Producer Barbara Broccoli says she's a fan of the troubled Grammy winner, but says, "It's very early days. We are thinking about it, but nothing is decided yet. Hopefully in the next month or two we'll firm it up."

Clive Owen was never considered for the role of James Bond.
True.

Well, maybe Sony Pictures wanted him in the mix, but not the powerful producers of the films. Producer Michael G. Wilson says, "No, we never asked Clive Owen. We've been on record that we never approached him, we never asked him. I think we met him once, ['Casino Royale' director Martin Campbell] had a screening of his picture, 'Beyond Borders.' Clive Owen was in the screening and we said, 'How do you do?' That is the only time Barbara and I have ever met the man." How does he explain the claim by industry paper Variety? Wilson says, "Sometimes fans speculate about it, sometimes a manager or someone will put the idea out in the world and see what happens."

Al Pacino is playing the yet-to-be-revealed head of the devious secret organization that was featured in "Royale."
False.
Both producers discounted that rumor, but wouldn't confirm whether the character was real or not.

Director Marc Forster initially turned the project down.
True.

The German-born Forster says, "At first I wasn't interested. I thought, 'Why me?' You have so many other directors out there who maybe understand that subject matter better and it took a while for me to come around and really become passionate about it, because I really wasn't sure about it. I thought 'Royale' was really well made, but I didn't know how much creative control I had, which is always crucial to me. And then I met a few times with Barbara and Michael and I did some research on them and I felt like they really will let me create the Bond I want to create."
