Two fast-rising superstars are teaming up for a new romantic comedy, at least
according to Variety. Fresh off the back-to-back success of "Knocked Up" and "27 Dresses," Katherine Heigl will star opposite Gerard Butler ("300") in "The Ugly Truth" for Lakeshore Entertainment.
The film focuses on a morning-show producer (Heigl) put through a number of
outrageous tests by her chauvinistic partner (Butler), who hosts a TV segment
entitled "The Ugly Truth," to prove his theories on dating and to help her find
love. The picture reunites the "Legally Blonde" creative team of director Robert
Luketic and screenwriters Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith.
Besides getting married during the Christmas holiday, Heigl has been sitting
idly since "Grey's Anatomy" was shut down because of the writers strike.
"Dresses" was filmed during her last "Grey's" hiatus, and "Truth" will fill her
summer break this year.
Butler just finished the action thriller "Game" and will appear in Walden Media's "Nim's Island" opposite Jodie Foster later this year. After he
shoots "Ugly," he's scheduled to star in Guy Ritche's ensemble "RocknRolla" for Warner Bros.
"Ugly" starts production this April.
Next column: Freddie Highmore does double-duty in the "The Spiderwick Chronicles"; Paris Hilton is still a "Hottie"; Oscar's weirdest
season; and more.
