| 2006 CANNES UNDRESSED! By Kat Giantis |
| Double Vision: While fame-craving, cleavage-exposing starlets (Paris, we're looking in your direction) have long been a
staple at Cannes, it's the haute couture-encased stars who rightfully take
center stage. This week, best-dressed honors go to Cate Blanchett and Penélope Cruz, who perfectly encapsulate the drop-dead
glamour that is expected -- but isn't always seen -- on the Croisette. On the
left, Cate, in barely there makeup and swept-back tresses, descends from the "Babel" premiere in a dramatic, black and white kimono-style
gown that is both bold and modern, while on the right, Cruz goes old Hollywood
for the debut of "Volver" in an ethereal strapless cream confection that
accents her glowing skin and chocolate locks. They're two very different dresses
for two very different actresses, but they share a common thread: They
illuminate the personalities of the wearers, an increasingly rare distinction
these days, when more often than not the one making the red-carpet fashion
statement is the stylist. |
