Hobbit finale renamed 'Battle of the Five Armies'

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) -- Peter Jackson is tweaking the ending of Bilbo Baggins' journey.

The director says the original title of "The Hobbit" finale felt misplaced since Baggins arrived at his destination in the second film. "There and Back Again" better suited a film that wrapped up a two-part story instead of a trilogy.

So the final film based on the J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy adventure has being renamed "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies."

Jackson wrote on Facebook that he and the studio, Warner Bros., kept an open mind until a cut of the film was ready. They watched it last week before agreeing on the new title.

The film premieres in December.

These Hobbit movies have been good, but do not match the greatness of the Lord of the Rings movies. That's ok. What's weird to me is that for me the Hobbit movie has become more about revisiting that world than it is about the plot.

I think the same people who express their disappointment in making 3 movies out of one book would also complain about all the stuff that would have to be left out to make it a single movie. some people assume ownership of things that they like and are unwilling to share them. I thought the books were good and I enjoyed the movies as well.

When do the spin-offs start?  I suggest  "Legolas Strikes Back" as a good starting point.

JRR Tolkiens' views and philosophy are very difficult if not impossible to express in a movie, the audience did not come for a lecture. The battles that occupy a few pages in the books can be a major part of the movie, they lend themselves to that media. Peter Jackson did a good job with both books, but could not please Christopher Tolkien though a pity , it can not be unexpected.

Some things are just better as books.
