LOS ANGELES (AP) — And the honorary Academy Awards go to ... Angelina Jolie, Steve Martin, Angela Lansbury and Italian costume designer Piero Tosi.

The film academy announced Thursday that Jolie will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, while Martin, Lansbury and Tosi will get Oscars recognizing their career achievements.

Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs said the Governors Awards "pay tribute to individuals who've made indelible contributions in their respective fields."

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors voted on the recipients of its fifth annual awards earlier this week. The honorary Oscars will be presented at an untelevised ceremony on Nov. 16 at Hollywood and Highland's Ray Dolby Ballroom.

Martin said on Twitter he's proud to receive the award, calling it "a salute to comedy and all the great people I've worked with." The 68-year-old entertainer has written and starred in dozens of movies, hosted the Oscar ceremony three times and was nominated for his 1977 short film, "The Absent-Minded Waiter."

Lansbury, 87, has been nominated for three supporting-actress Oscars during her 65-year career. Her most recent role was in 2011's "Mr. Popper's Penguins."

Tosi's costume designs have earned him five Oscar nominations, most recently for 1979's "Las Cage aux Folles" and 1982's "La Traviata."

The Hersholt Award is presented periodically to a film industry member for exemplary humanitarian work. Jolie, who was nominated for her leading performance in 2008's "Changeling" and won for her supporting role in 1999's "Girl, Interrupted," serves as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The 38-year-old actress and filmmaker has also lobbied Congress to support programs protecting women and children. She will be the youngest person and only the seventh woman to receive the award.

Previous recipients of the Hersholt Award include Jeffrey Katzenberg, Oprah Winfrey, Sherry Lansing, Jerry Lewis and Elizabeth Taylor.

The good she is doing, far outweighs the other things that happened in her past. The humanitarian work she does takes her to places none of us would ever go, to help people we only see on the news. Too bad reporters don't cover that instead of the garbage they cover.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are models of what compassion, humanitarian work, and ethics look like.  They are a examples of the good that can be done with power and celebrity, in an age when so many in similar positions in society use their wealth and power to feather their own nests and feed their egos!  BRAVO Angelina; more than well deserved.  We love you!!

some of you people are so stupid you give idiots a bad name. brad gave his interview and stated that mr and mrs smith took a year to film. at the start of filming he was with jen, they separated and later he and Angelina got together. now when brad and jen were dating and after they were married he had always said he wanted children.  in all their interviews together jen said she wanted them to however always had an excuse as to why the timing was not right. friends was taking up a lot of time, oh I am starting to do movies, friends is coming to a close.....all the while smoking like a train, drinking, drugging and partying, does this sound like someone ready to have a child?  during this time brad is watching friends and acquaintances who work just as hard and a lot harder then they are raise a family. he was tired of the drugs and partying that they both were doing. I watched brads interviews, he went from happy to and looking forward to barely able to look at people when they asked him about kids with jen. she lied to him continually, how do I know? cause she lied in her interviews. he got tired of it and left. Angelina could not have stolen something that was given away. there is more to her body (jolie) of work then the one and two dimensional fluffs jen plays. she didn't have to appear on oprah every few months to remind people she existed and wanted a pity party like poor jen, she had better thank jolie because if it were not for the tabloids printing half truths and lies she would have been forgotten about just like those "friends" of hers. look at their careers and how it has taken any of them to get anywhere since friends went off the air. yes jolie was a wild child however when she adopted max and realized there is more to life then Hollywood she grew up and did it fast. she matured. and what did jen do? vince vaugh (he was in mr and mrs smith, they could have been screwing about while he was filming with brad) & john meyer...... she made a lot of money she did not deserve making silly brainless movies. put that against ALL of the humanitarian work both she and brad do, their charities, the help they give designing and building homes for those who do not have a lot of money or have lost their homes in natural disasters, and for themselves raise a fab group of kids with different cultural back grounds making sure they know where they came from, where they are going while learning to think of others. no she is not perfect, none of are, however she picked herself up and moved on. and for those of you who are self-righteous judgmental pricks out there who act like they have never done wrong or committed a sin, just remember one day you will need and want someone's forgiveness and forgetfulness  you best pray they are not like you who would rather remember a persons past and hold it against them forever then to forgive and let it go. having someone constantly throwing your mistakes in your face will not be fun.

It's about time Angelina is presented with such an award for all her humanitarian work around the world. Well deserved.  It's sad that some people here are only follow her so they can continue their bitterness about the Brad & Jen.  Get over it already - it's been almost a decade ago.  Apparently, Brad & Jen have moved on.  Do you think Hollywood marriages last forever?  Wake up and open your eyes.  You may see what is wrong with yourself and be happy for others.
