The actress was among a number of stars, including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom, whose homes were targeted by a gang of young thieves between 2008 and 2009. The case of the celebrity burglar bunch inspired Coppola's new film "The Bling Ring," starring Emma Watson and featuring victim Hilton in a cameo role. However, Bilson, who reportedly lost her mother's engagement ring in the break-in, insists she doesn't agree with the decision to make the movie.
She tells Britain's Cosmopolitan magazine, "I thought it was weird to glorify something that was so upsetting for a lot of people. It's important to detach from material things, but the special, personal things I lost are hard to forget." Bilson testified during the trial of real-life gang members and revealed the burglary left her so scared, she couldn't sleep in her bedroom for weeks afterwards. She said, "It took me a while to feel comfortable staying there. I wouldn't sleep in my bedroom for about a month. And I was convinced that I needed to sell my house and get out of there, because I was very scared. But I'm still there."
I always wondered since the news of the robberies broke-how so many wealthy people didn't have alarms systems, or they weren't set on the days of the break-ins. I live in a middle-class, relatively low crime area but husband and I always put our alarm system on when leaving the house. Why didn't these celebs do the same with all the expensive stuff they have in their mansions?????
