Nicole Kidman defends her Grace Kelly movie

Nicole Kidman has stepped up to defend her upcoming Grace Kelly movie following criticism from the late star's royal relatives, and says her portrayal will be "respectful."

Kidman plays the actress-turned-real-life princess in her upcoming movie "Grace of Monaco," but the film has come under fire from Kelly's children, Prince Albert Of Monaco, and his sisters, Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie, who recently branded the project "pointlessly glamorized," "inaccurate" and "pure fiction."

Kidman is now speaking out about the film, explaining that she found the part "daunting" at first, but tried to make sure she honored the Hollywood legend's memory. Speaking at a London screening of her new film "Stoker," she told reporters, "I wanted to be respectful of her, her story and her essence so hopefully that will all come through. It's exciting, but at first it was daunting. At the same time, I had studied her and felt a kind of tenderness towards her."

Screen legend Kelly became Princess Grace of Monaco when she wed Prince Rainier III in 1956. She died in a car accident in 1985 at the age of 52. "Grace of Monaco" is due for release in 2014.

Why does Nicole Kidman even bother defending her performance of Grace Kelly when nobody's yet seen the film.  Granted, Kelly's family, especially the royals, aren't going to respect Kidman's performance, regardless of how good it might be.  Kidman's talents are well known, and her turn as Kelly will likely garner lots of praise from critics, regardless of what anybody else thinks about it.  After all, Kelly was an actress before she was a princess, and Kidman has an Oscar in her corner, which gives her plenty of room to portray Kelly.

No, but Nicole is an actress. She got the role over everyone else. Give her a break. Who are you to judge who should play the role. It's income for her children. If you had the chance to play the role, it would be an honor.

I love Nicole Kidman, but, sorry, I'm not sure if I can picture her as Grace Kelly.  I guess because Grace is so beautifully elegant, NO OTHER actress can match her at all.  But then again, of course there is only one Grace Kelly, so why not give Nicole a chance? It's not like Lindsay Lohan, playing Liz Taylor, Nicole is better than Lohan.

I watch every Nicole Kidman film because I think she is a wonderful actress; however, it would certainly be nice for her to play in a movie worthy of watching.  Can't remember a movie I watched of hers that I truly enjoyed.  Hope this is a good one!

Kidman is a good actress but sorry she is no Grace Kelly.    I wonder if the kids of Grace Kelly have seen the screan play yet?  That might be why they do not like what they see.   I really do not know of an American acress today who could play Grace Kelly.  I do not know any that have enough class.
