Antonio Banderas has hired his actress wife, Melanie Griffith, to star in a new movie he has written and plans to direct.

The actor hopes to make his third film, "Akil," with Griffith, who starred in his directorial debut, "Crazy in Alabama," in 1999.
According to Variety, "Akil" follows the fortunes of an African boy who sails to Spain in a boat and finds shelter in the home of an American woman, played by Griffith. Banderas also plans to produce the project.
