Appeals court dismisses lawsuit from Joan Rivers' fan

WENN

Comedienne Joan Rivers has won a legal battle against a fan who briefly appeared in her 2010 documentary "A Piece of Work."

Ann Bogie approached Rivers backstage after the show and chatted with the funnywoman about a heckler who took offense at a joke about author and activist Helen Keller. The conversation, during which Bogie called the heckler a "rotten guy," was caught on camera, and when it appeared in the film, she sued the comedienne and IFC Films executives for invading her privacy and misappropriating her image.

The case was dismissed last year, and on Thursday appeals court judges ruled that the lower court officials' decision to throw the matter out was the correct, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In making their decision, the judges wrote: "The plaintiff voluntarily approached a celebrity just after a public performance. Any reasonable person would expect to encounter some kind of security presence, and indeed here that presence was visible. Furthermore, the camera crew must have also been visible to Bogie as they were filming both Rivers and, of course, Bogie."

This Bogie character is "A Piece of Work." Clearly someone who did something they regretted and then wanted to place blame on someone with money. Idiot.

Ann Bogie?  Who is she anyway?  And if she went backstage to see Joan Rivers, she surely must've seen the cameras filming for whatever reason.  Her time passed to ask about the filmmakers whether they were invading her privacy and misappropriating her image.  And her charge is so laughable, I'm surprised the judge in the courtroom didn't laugh her out into the street.  Like any fan, she got the opportunity to appear on film with the legendary Joan Rivers, which she should've been honored to be a part of.   What a sore loser!!!  Crawl back in your hole, Bogie!!!
