Utah group objects to state funding of 'obscene' Sundance lineup
By BRADY McCOMBS, Associated Press
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A conservative Utah group is calling on the state to stop funding the Sundance Film Festival due to movies it says are at odds with family values.

The Sutherland Institute says the state shouldn't back a festival that features films about porn stars and women having affairs with one another's adult sons. He's referring to "Lovelace" and "Two Mothers," a pair of films starring Hollywood actresses.

Utah expects to spend $300,000 to support the festival again this year. Last year, the festival generated an estimated $80.3 million in economic impact for the state.

Utah state officials stand by the backing, citing the money and international exposure the festival brings. Sundance officials say they show films that are well crafted and thoughtful, and that viewers can choose films right for them.

Meh, there are nutjobs everywhere...  I live in Utah, am Mormon, enjoy Sundance, and OMG! am pro gay marriage.

The vocal minority are always making the most noise, particularly when they are insane.

Mormons.  Why not spend your efforts finding out why there are still Mormon polygamists in Nevada?

Mormons will weigh every issue and decide on which is best for family values based on which brings in the most money.  They are the largest liquor dealer in Nevada through Albertsons, which also has conveniently located slot machine rooms in every store.  They also own or control most of the strip clubs and hookers in Vegas.

Ok, as long as Utah also removes the tax exemption from all religions. If the premise is to stop state funding for things precieved as obscene religions and their edifices are a GREAT place to start the process. A strong and reasoned case backed by millenia of evidence can easily be made that superstitions cause obscene acts to ocurr. From wars and priest abuse to persecutions, beheadings, burning at the stake...the list is soooo long. Also cutting the funding for the fiction in the sky has practical application in these defecit ridden times for most states and localities!  Can you imagine the taxes on ....for example... the Tabernacle???
