Robert Redford in talks to bring Sundance to New York

WENN

Robert Redford is poised to take on Robert De Niro's annual New York film festival by bringing his own Sundance event to the Big Apple.

The Hollywood veteran wants to expand his independent movie showcase, which is held annually in Park City, Utah, to the Brooklyn area, reports New York Post gossip column Page Six.

According to the publication, Redford is in talks to launch a "large-scale New York festival" that would rival the city's yearly Tribeca Film Festival, which De Niro co-founded in 2002 with producer Jane Rosenthal.

"We continue to seek new programmatic opportunities in regions across the country and internationally," said a Sundance spokesperson.

The 2013 Sundance Film Festival will kick off in Utah next Thursday and will feature movies from Daniel Radcliffe, Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Amanda Seyfried.

Good. Take it Brooklyn. I was born, raised and still live in Park City for 28 years. Please, by all means take the lanyard loving, cellphone addicted, massive fur boot and all black wearing ****s to New York. They can save on airfare. Ta Ta.

the restuarant Zoom that robert owns in Park City serves one of the crappiest overpriced steaks I have ever had. PArk City would do better to get rid of all the pretensious idiots.

Why would you want to do anything in Brooklyn? The whole boro is an absolute ****. Overcrowded, horrible traffic, caused by horrible roads, tons of crime, ugh. I try to avoid Brooklyn almost as hard as I try to avoid Manhattan.

Here in Utah we have the most backward and extremely strange liquor laws.  As much as they try to make Park City seem like it is in another part of the Country; they still have to adhere to our very, very out dated liquor laws and laws.  There is no separation of Church and State in Utah and therefore the Mormon church controls our State and holds it back to the point it is impossible to conduct certain types of business.  But we do have the very greatest snow on earth!!!!!!  And we are currently basking in the depth of the snow.
