Action figures for 'Django Unchained' draw protest

NEW YORK (AP) -- Some are questioning the appropriateness of slavery-era action figures tied to Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained."

Bing: 'Django' draws ire and praise

A line of figures of the movie's main characters are currently for sale online, made by toymaker NECA in partnership with the Weinstein Co. On Tuesday, Najee Ali, director of the advocacy group Project Islamic Hope, will hold a press conference with other Los Angeles black community leaders calling for the removal of the toys from the market.

Ali calls the action figures "a slap in the face of our ancestors" that "trivializes the horrors of slavery."

Action figures were made by manufacturer Hot Toys for Tarantino's film "Inglourious Basterds."

The Weinstein Co. and NECA didn't immediately comment Tuesday.

Oh for gods sake get over yourselves. Not everything is a deliberate insult or callous dis-regard for some perceived culture. Enough with the special interest groups and minorities dictating to the rest of the public what they can and cannot see, hear or buy. If you don't like something fine but don't take away the rights of others to make a choice. Don't scream for equal rights by demanding special treatment.

Why don't the L.A. black community leaders, protest Jay-Z, 50 cents, Kanye, P-Diddy and the likes for calling Blacks, nigga in their music.  I find that more of an insult to my ancestry than anything else.  Just like Spike Lee doesn't want to see the movie for the use of the N word.  But say nothing about the rappers and the way they insult blacks.  If you couldn't read between the lines, I am Black not African-American.
