Jennifer Lawrence's mom stole her Oscars voting ballot

Actress Jennifer Lawrence feared she had missed her chance to vote for the 2013 Academy Awards after her mom snatched the ballot and wrote down her own film favorites.

"The Hunger Games" star was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences last year and was looking forward to weighing in on the nominations. But Lawrence admits she was terrified she would be booted from the prestigious organization after her mom Karen intercepted the ballot and mailed it in with her picks.

Lawrence tells talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, "I get a call from my mother while I was in England and she goes, 'I did something hilarious. ... I voted.' And I was like, 'You voted for what?' 'The Oscars!' And I was like, 'You voted for the Oscars, what do you mean?' And she goes, 'The ballot came here and I voted!'

"She thought I'd (think) that's hilarious. I'm going to get kicked out of the Academy! Fortunately, she did it wrong and mailed it back to herself, so I got to do it again." When asked if she agreed with her mom's selections, Lawrence insisted, "No!"

Tampering with the US mail is a federal offense. I say prosecute her. Now, that would be hilarious!

I would say distance yourself from your idiot mom quickly before she thinks it's hilarious to re-route one of your million dollar checks into her own account.

"she did it wrong and mailed it back to herself"

We're in the 21st century and this imbecile wasn't capable of sending a simple document by mail?

I guess stupidity is still prevailing all over the world.

Her dear sweet mother also broke the law by intercepting mail intended for someone else and acting on it, but that's what happens when you are underage or live at home for some other reason. Maybe she should  have mail set elsewhere?  My mother opened my mail including bank statements while I lived at home, even though she was charging me rent!  Needless to say, as soon as I was able to do so I left.  That was over 40 years ago and I suppose I've forgiven her long ago, but I haven't forgotten.  Too bad they didn't pass the Emancipated Minor Act in my home state sooner.  My life would have been so much easier if Id been able to accept that Senatorial scholarship for example, but I managed to pay for and get an education anyway.  Hang in there, kid.
