Headstone placed on grave of 'Little Rascals' star

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Fans of the "Little Rascals" film series were in Baltimore this weekend to place a headstone at the grave of child actor Norman "Chubby" Chaney.

Chaney's grave had been unmarked for 76 years since he died at age 21. Chaney was paid a weekly salary when he appeared in the films between 1929 and 1931. But he didn't receive any royalties or residual payments and returned to Baltimore when he grew out of the role. The Baltimore Sun reported Sunday that he struggled with his weight as a teenager. When he died, his mother couldn't afford a headstone for his grave.

The series was known as "Our Gang" when it was shown in theaters and later as the "Little Rascals" on television.

He always said to the pretty teacher, "Don't call me Norman...call me Chubbsy-Ubbsy!" Classic shows that will live on forever. One of the greats of the time, he and Jackie Cooper, as well as the rest of the "Gang" and "Rascals" who have passed on will never be forgotten

Add me to the list of fans of Little Rascals. Loved Stymie, Buckwheat, Alfalfa, Jackey Cooper,Darlene, etc. Prayers out to all the Rascals. and Chubbsy Obbskie. Enjoy the first interracial comedy that children do not care what race or color you are, except No Girls Allowed in the club house. Then and now, most child actors end up poor while somebody still gets paid.

Those Little Rascals kids had the saddest lives. So many of them died young and destitute.

he had some kind of metabolic issues that made him heavy. it really wasn't funny to laugh at him because of his weight, but those were differnet times i guess.

they also used to make gags about blind and deaf folks in the movies too.

anyway, good his grave is finally marked.
