Tyler Perry urges fans to see 'Alex Cross' despite bad reviews

Tyler Perry has issued a public appeal to his fans to see his new movie, "Alex Cross," after the film was hit with a slew of bad reviews.

He writes on his official blog, "There are a lot of people who think I can't do this. There are also a lot of people who think you won't show up because I'm not playing Madea. There are also a lot of people who are working overtime to try to discourage you from seeing 'Alex Cross' as they do with all of my films... I'm hoping you'll prove them all wrong. ... I'm so hoping you are planning on going out to see 'Alex Cross' this weekend. ... You know that the opening weekend is how you're judged in Hollywood. So if you can, please try to get out this weekend. Be sure to check your ticket stubs to make certain they say 'Alex Cross.' ... You're the real critics.

"I know you may not know this, but there is a lot riding on this film. This is the first time that I have ever been considered for a role like this. Hollywood has never even offered it to me. I've done my best and I've done all I can. It's in your hands now. ... Take someone with you if you can. This is an experience that should be shared."

In "Alex Cross," the actor-director plays a character previously portrayed by Morgan Freeman in "Kiss the Girls" and "Along Came a Spider."

David Germain of The Associated Press writes, "Perry is low-key bordering on sleepwalker dull, and the standard-issue cop-vs.-serial-killer story presents Cross as more of a dopey psycho-babbler than a guy whose incisive mind cuts right to the heart of the case."

In her review, Betsy Sharkey of the Los Angeles Times says, "Some of the dialogue is so bad it's like an 'SNL' skit gone south. Then, just as you begin to think that maybe 'Alex Cross' is supposed to be a comedy, something serious, like a funeral, will happen."

I went to see "Alex Cross" starring Tyler Perry today and was really impressed with his portrayal of the character.  Matthew Fox was quite good as his police buddy.

What upset me, however, was that people brought little kids to this movie which had some very graphic violence and sexual content.  I went out to the manager in the lobby to ask why they had let parents buy tickets for their children to see it.  These little ones cried and asked their parents about what was going on on-screen.  The manager informed me that they cannot tell people what to see.  If they pay for their tickets, it's all right to take their children into whatever movie the parents choose.  I only hope those children don't suffer from terrible nightmares.  The same happened along time ago with "Silence of the Lambs" and "Terminator 2".  What are parents thinking to subject their little ones to such violence?

If you loved Norbit and Pluto Nash, this movie will seem like a winner.

Refund!!! Horrible performance. Shame on you Perry; begging us in the midst of this recession, to spend our hard earned money on this junk. PLEASE bring back Morgan Freeman the man can act. If this was acting than I guess we're better off with TP in a dress even though that role is a bit played out.

My husband and I saw the movie last night and thought it was great. i have read all of Alex Cross books and thought Tyler Perry did him justice. I am also a fan of Morgan Freeman.
