Nicole Kidman fought with 'Paperboy' director over derogatory term

WENN

Nicole Kidman got into an argument with director Lee Daniels on the set of erotic thriller "The Paperboy," after refusing to use a racial slur included in the script.

Bing: Will Nicole join Keith Urban on 'American Idol'?

The actress, who plays prisoner John Cusack's lover in the upcoming movie, pushed her boundaries to the limit by filming three controversial scenes in the first three days of production. However, Kidman drew the line when it came to using the N-word, and her stance caused major tension with her director.

Daniels tells the New York Post, "Her character was supposed to say the N-word, and she wouldn't say it. I was angry. My producer tells me, 'Are you serious? She bends over a washing machine [for a sex scene] the first day, she has telepathic sex with Cusack in prison on the second day, she urinates on Zac Efron on the third day, and you're angry because she won't say the N-word? "Give the girl a break.' I said, 'Alright.'"

At a press conference for the film on Wednesday, Kidman addressed the issue saying, "I didn't feel like it was right for the character. I have a son who's African American and I just didn't feel it was right. It wasn't right. What I try to do as an actor is fulfill a director's vision. I have opinions, but at the same time, I'm not there to stop him from anything. I've really tried to do that in every film. I never want to pull them off their vision."

Please let us come up with another name rather than African American.  I am a naturalized citizen born and raised in Germany. I am an American I am not a German American. 99.99% of the black population have never been to Africa and their heritage goes back more than 10 generations so why do they refer to themselves as African American why not just American who happen to be black or any other name they want to choose as long as it is not the N word. I realize and understand how deragatory that word is and would never use it but come on people African American is not the right term either or this entire country needs to have their citizens refer to themselves as Irish American, Italian American, French American, Cuban American, etc, etc. Now isn't that silly.

Good for her! My 11th grade literature class was reading "Uncle Tom's Cabin" aloud and when it came to my turn I also refused to use such a derogatory term. I was raised in a home where all people are treated with respect, and words that demean or slander weren't even considered. My children were also raised with the same attitudes. It was a challenge when I married into my husband's family and the "N" word was used loosely. I refused to be in their company or allow my children in their company if it didn't stop.......It stopped.

GOOD FOR HER.  IT'S ABOUT TIME SOMEONE STANDS UP TO THE LANGUAGE IN MOVIES.  AND WE WONDER WHY KIDS AND PEOPLE SPEAK THE WAY THEY DO?  IT'S ALL THEY HEAR ANYMORE.  IF MOVIES NEED CRUDE LANGUAGE TO BE GOOD, THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH ALL OF US, AND MORE IMPORTANT, WITH THE ENTERTAINMENT WORLD.

I feel that there is no place for that language in movies or any where else. We are trying to stop that kind of things and to keep using it in movies will not help. We are wanting to treat everyone the same and that does not help!

I am glad Nicole didn't say it. She is setting a very good example for everyone. I wish more people would stand up for what they believe in.  It's not always easy but it is what we do that defines each of us.
