Hugh Laurie skips film screening due to exhaustion

Hugh Laurie left the premiere of his new movie early last week after he was struck down with exhaustion.

The British actor attended the screening of "The Oranges "at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York City on Friday, but after sitting down with other guests to watch the film, Laurie made a swift exit.

A representative for the House star has now explained his decision to duck out of the event early, insisting Laurie's hectic schedule had left him totally drained. The spokesperson tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "He did a full press day on Friday with the rest of the cast, as well as appearances on (several TV shows) starting at 8 a.m. After completing the press line and finishing his publicity commitments for the day, the film started late and he opted to leave as he hadn't had a proper break ... to eat and rest."

Laurie recently completed a tour of the U.S. to promote his jazz album "Let Them Talk."

Doubt many people have had the schedule he has had over the last two and a half years (or few who follow such things).  He finished the seventh and eighth seasons of a show where he was almost constantly on set, after the seventh season, he'd flown to Papua New Guinea (in the summer of 2011) to film the movie Mr. Pip, and launched a world-tour in May 2012 of his album.  He traveled by bus up the West Coast, then flew to South America, into Russia and Europe to complete that tour.  Less than a month later he was back in a bus touring the midwest and east coast of the US, had to fly to Toronto from NYC and back for the International Film Festival on Sunday between gigs near the end of that tour to promote the film Mr. Pip, finish the tour on Wednesday, perform and interview on 2 different shows on Friday, the same day as he did The Oranges' press thing for the folks in NYC.  Yeah, he may have signed up for and been paid for all of that, but he's still a human being who, it sounds like to me, had reached the end of his proverbial rope.  So I guess if the movie started late at the end of all that and he didn't have the patience or feel up to it, he has nothing to explain.  Get some rest, Dude!
