Richard Gere still sore about 'Chicago' Oscar snub

WENN

Hollywood veteran Richard Gere was hurt by the lack of Academy recognition for his performance in hit movie musical "Chicago" after watching all of his famous co-stars earn Oscars praise for their work in the film.

The actor, 63, admits he has never paid much attention to awards news, but when his pals Catherine Zeta-Jones, Queen Latifah, Renee Zellweger and John C. Reilly all landed nominations in the run-up to the 2003 Oscars, he felt more than a little left out by the snub.

In an interview on "The View," which aired on Friday, Gere, who played singing and dancing lawyer-for-hire Billy Flynn in the film, said, "The only time it really bothered me was in 'Chicago.' Everyone else got nominated. I'm waiting for my name [to be read out in the nominations] and it goes right by me, like, 'Wow, what happened?' I have to admit, that got to me."

Zeta-Jones was the only one to claim gold at the ceremony, while the film also landed five other honors, including Best Picture, Best Film Editing and Best Costume Design.

Critics have tipped Gere's role in new drama "Arbitrage" as one Academy officials won't be able to ignore, but the "Pretty Woman" star refuses to get caught up in the hype.

When asked for his reaction to the Oscar buzz, he simply replied, "People have been very generous about this movie."

C'mon now! Richard Gere is the sexiest man on screen even at the age of 63! Just watch him walk from behind - he always had THE walk! And the most underrated and talented actor of my day!  The interview on The View on Friday shows what a modest man he truly is!

To each his own, but I have seen every movie he ever appeared in and many more than once!

Love that man!

Gere is a very good actor.   He was excellent in an Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman and many others.   I think since he does not play the Hollywood scene it is going to be tough for him to win an award.   Brown nosing is the name of the game.

There is nothing in the article about him being "still sore" about not receiving a nomination for his role in Chicago.  The article states that he "was hurt". And in quoting him on The View, he said, "I have to admit, that got to me.".  All past tense.  Clearly he is over it and the title of the article is misleading.  Richard Gere is a 63 year old man who has enjoyed great success in his career.  I would hope to God he isn't sore about much of anything.  And I give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he is in fact not.  In fact, if he is sore about anything, it would be the title of this stupid article.
