Director banned all mention of the Joker in 'Batman' finale
WENN

"Batman" trilogy director Christopher Nolan ruled out mentioning the Joker in "The Dark Knight Rises" because he didn't want to trivialize Heath Ledger's death with a throwaway line.

Ledger stunned audiences as the cartoon villain in "The Dark Knight," but died before the second film in Nolan's series came out, and rather than reference the Joker in the final movie, Nolan insisted no one should even utter the character's name.

Find: Was 'Dark Knight Rises' trailer dubbed by Pee-wee Herman?

"I felt very strongly that the Joker was off-limits," Nolan said. "I don't want to trivialize a tragedy like that by explaining it away in some fashion.

"I made the choice immediately that talking about the Joker was off the table. It's just the way I feel about it, based on my relationship with Heath... That's what felt right to me."

Ledger died from an accidental drug overdose in January 2008.

As a fan of Batman both in the movies and comics I think Heath Ledger did an amazing job as The Joker and I can't see why you would think otherwise Moviefox. Can't wait to see the new movie!

Why is it that when an actor, a celebrity, or any other public figure dies of a drug overdose, it is deemed to be "accidental", but when the same thing happens to an average person, they are branded as a worthless druggie that brought their death on themselves and we are better off without them anyway?

In this day and age, I am still amazed at the ignorance in people. Heath Ledger was a sick person, not someone who used for fun. He self-medicated. People should educate themselves on the disease of addiction before they make stupid, and yes, DISrespectful comments. Chances are someone YOU love is struggling from the same disease.
