Ed Helms in talks to star in 'Vacation' reboot

The Hollywood Reporter

Ed Helms is in negotiations to star in New Line's planned "Vacation" reboot. Helms will play Rusty Griswold, the kid from the original films, who in the new movie will be all grown up and embarking on a vacation with his own family.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are directing the project, which plays like both a sequel and a reboot of the Chevy Chase franchise that began with the 1983 Harold Ramis-directed comedy "National Lampoon's Vacation." That film was written by John Hughes and was based on his own experiences on family vacations. Anthony Michael Hall played Rusty in the original. The franchise continued with "European Vacation" (1985), "Christmas Vacation" (1989) and "Vegas Vacation" (1997).

The new project will start filming in the spring after Helms wraps "The Office."

David Dobkin is producing.

Helms, repped by CAA and Principato Young, is in production on Lionsgate's "They Came Together" with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler and will begin shooting "The Hangover Part III" in September.

I think its great that they are doing another vacation movie. I wish they would do a Griswold family reunion movie. It would be funny to get Uncle Eddie and his goofy kids to show up!

Trying to follow Chevy Chase from what was his "hay day" is a bad idea...but, good luck with it.

Christmas Vacation takes the cake..........but barely over the original.  It is a tradition to watch that classic around the holidays........I'm seriously laughing just thinking of it.  Cannot wait till my kids are older and I can share it with them.  Hopefully this upcoming reboot does not bomb in the record books like European and Vegas.

Still watch "Christmas Vacation" during Christmas time. I occasionally watch it throughout the year and only hope ANDY works hard and receives due accolades after the movie is published.

To Ed Helms and the people working on this Manhattan Project caliber of a bomb:

You might ring up Robert Carradine first.  Ask him how those Revenge of the Nerds: The Next Generation films went over.

Can't wait to see the "reboot"s of Funny Farm and Nothing But Trouble.
