Brad Defends 'Sweetheart' Jen Over Calling Angelina 'Uncool'

If Brad Pitt ever decides to branch out from his dual pursuits of acting and altruism, he might want to consider a career in diplomacy. In a candid interview with the February issue of W, the A-lister deftly comes to the defense of both ex-wife Jennifer Aniston and mother-of-his-six-kids Angelina Jolie over the whole "uncool" kerfuffle.

"Listen, man, Jen is a sweetheart," says Pitt, 45, who announced his separation from the currently John Mayer-smitten actress exactly four years ago (Jan. 7, 2005). "I think she got dragged into that one, and then there's a second round to all of that Angie versus Jen. It's so created."

Aniston, you'll recall, kvetched to the December issue of Vogue that she felt it was "really uncool" for Jolie to discuss how she couldn't wait to get to work every day while making "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" with the still-married Pitt.

But, just as the actor did last month in Rolling Stone, when he praised Angelina for being "as honorable as anyone I've ever met," he stands up for his amour, asserting that the timeline of their romance has been misconstrued.

"What people don't understand is that we filmed ['Mr. & Mrs. Smith'] for a year. We were still filming after Jen and I split up," he maintains. "Even then it doesn't mean that there was some kind of dastardly affair. There wasn't. I'm very proud of the way that it was handled. It was respectful."

Adds Brad, "[The film] will mean something to our kids. It will, that's all."

His comments reinforce what Jolie told the New York Times in October about how she wants tykes Maddox, 7, Pax, 5, Zahara, 3, Shiloh, 2, and 6-month-old twins Vivienne and Knox to watch the action flick one day because "not a lot of people get to see a movie where their parents fell in love."

As for Aniston, who fired back at Angelina's less-than-astounding revelation in her butt nekkid-posing GQ interview ("Am I surprised?" she vented.
